Six students, from the 17 students who attended the Freedom Studios Theatre School workshops over the course of 2009, were available to take part in devising, rehearsing and performing a production for two primary schools in December 2009.  The objective of the project was for the students to develop and consolidate the skills they had learned in the workshops and to bring them together for a public performance.  School children, aged between 7 and 9 were chosen as the target audience in order to develop the students’ skills in devising for a specific audience and to enable them to receive spontaneous feedback.

“The Coin” empowered the emerging actors with the responsibility of devising and creating an original story that would reflect their creative individual practice. “The Coin” and the process which led to its creation employed performative skills and exercises that will become the foundations upon which the emerging actors will in time build their professional careers.
