While Kissell's highly detailed oil paintings call to mind the techniques of the Old Masters, her choice of subject matter is entirely up to date. This mixing of languages creates surreal juxtapositions: lush tropical vegetation blossom on snowy maintain tops, Bauhaus houses occupy verdant meadows whiles baroque palaces disappear in the horizon.
Recently, Kissell has been working on a new body of works, sculptures that seem to emanate from her canvases. These 3 dimensional realisations of her canvases bring her magical worlds to life. Lighting allows daylight to fade to twilight so that the scenes cab be completely transformed in a way that a canvas cannot, being as it is solid and fixed in a moment in time.
Natasha Kissell was born in 1978 and lives in London.
