Freedom Studios is a theatre company that endeavours to challenge theatrical convention. We are willing to take risks in pioneering a new artistic language and by exploring the potential of a new generation of artists. We want to tell the stories of first and second-generation immigrant artists and challenge historical perceptions of the arts through their voices.
Our aim is to create theatre that gives everyone a cultural opportunity and to provide a safe and secure environment for talent to flourish.

Why?
The demography of the United Kingdom has changed dramatically over the last sixty years and continues to change rapidly as the world opens up and borders are torn down. Yet the experiences and voices of those who have migrated here are not represented adequately in the arts.
‘Since 1948, Britain has attempted to come to terms with its changing demography in a variety of ways. The artistic landscape has changed due to the magnitude of human effort made by arts practitioners of African, Asian, Caribbean and East Asian descent. But real embedded transformation has proved elusive.’ Extract from The ‘Whose Theatre Report 2006’ commissioned by the Arts Council.
