Sounding Out #ChipShoptheMusical

Getting the music right is a key component to #ChipShoptheMusical.

It’s central to everything the show’s about and we’re pulling the show together musically in the following ways:

• Commissioning exclusive tracks from well-known grime music producer, Mr SnoWman.
• Working with an up-and-coming grime artist and MC, who will provide industry insight and lyrical consultancy.
• Recruiting a theatrical composer to blend all the sounds (grime, chip shop sounds and orchestral music) and design a musical score that runs throughout the show and which our characters perform to.

Reaching out to the music industry has shown us that there is a hunger for new work that crosses boundaries and forges connections in the creative industries.

We’re so excited to able to reveal more details about the musical team joining us for our next stage of research & development on #ChipShoptheMusical:

 

Arun Ghosh – Composer & Sound Designer

 

Arun Ghosh is a musician, composer and musical director, originally from Bolton.

He has worked on over 50 professional productions, scoring plays from Shakespeare to Sophocles to Lemn Sissay, and a wide array of new writing.  He is currently working on the national tour of new play, Blood, by Tamasha Theatre Company and The Deranged Marriage, by Rifco Arts.

Arun has also composed numerous commissions over the years and collaborated with a huge range of musicians, poets, artists, MCs, writers and exciters, dancers, aerial artists and choreographers.

In addition, Arun is well-known and respected on the jazz scene as a clarinettist and bandleader – he has released three albums, toured nationally and internationally, and was awarded Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2014 Parliamentary Jazz Awards.

 

Mr SnoWman – Grime Music Producer

 

Mr SnoWman has been making music in one way or another since the age of 11.

Grime-wise, he has collaborated with or produced: Lethal Bizzle, Professor Green, Ghetto, P-Money, Dot Rotten, Jammer, Bugzy Malone, Ghetts and many more.

Mr SnoWman played the viola for eight years, while growing up. He has DJed at big events like Sidewinder and Detonate Festival and on both Radio 1 and 1 Xtra.

 

 Coco – Lyrical Consultant

 

Coco, has been MCing and producing grime music for close to 10 years. Hailing from the city of Sheffield, he grew up inspired by the grime scene and began to create his own music representing his Yorkshire roots. Recently, Coco has found himself on the radar of many DJs and other artists alike, gaining nationwide exposure and featuring on Toddla T’s Radio 1 & 1Xtra show.

Currently working on new material with a number of producers and with many things in the pipeline, Coco is definitely one to watch for 2015.
