FS Spotlight: Kerry Wright
Freedom Studios caught up with writer, producer and Youth Theatre Assistant Facilitator Kerry and asked her a few questions to find out more about her time with us here at Freedom…
Can you tell us a little bit about what makes Freedom Studios Youth Theatre unique?
I think the Freedom Studios Youth Theatre is different from other youth theatres because of how close knit we are as a group. All the young people get on so well which creates such a safe space for people to explore theatre and most importantly be themselves. Also, unlike some theatre groups, we also explore directing, writing and devising, meaning that the young people have full agency over their performances.
What do you look forward to each week?
I look forward to seeing the gold dust that the young people create each week – because genuinely it always is! They are brilliant and I always leave the session feeling so inspired with my own work.
What other things are you busy working on, or excited about that is happening soon?
I am currently developing my play KAILEY which I have written and produced and I’m aiming to go on tour with next year which is exciting! This year I was a writer on the BBC Writersroom Northern Voices Scheme and have just been selected to be a part of FilmMakers25 mentoring programme in association with Channel 4 and Bradford Council. I am also currently facilitating the creative writing sessions for Heydays at Leeds Playhouse.
