Opportunities with Freedom Studios
Freedom Studios are always looking to find and develop new talent, be they actors, writer or directors.
Freedom Actors Bradford is for new and established actors to hone their skills. It was created by Bradford actor, Natalie Davies, during her time as Associate Artist to give local actors a chance to train and work together locally. Over 2017 we have run monthly masterclass with industry professionals in all disciplines of performance, as well as skill sharing sessions. Previous workshops have been led by Pauline Myers (Associate Artist at West Yorkshire Playhouse), Elvi Piper (Artistic Director, Wrongsemble Theatre Company) and Andrew French (RSC, West Yorkshire Playhouse). Our final one of the year will on Wednesday 13th December 6-8pm with Trainee Artistic Director, Kash Arshad, and Emmerdale actress Karen Blick, plus an opportunity to say what you would like to see in the future.
Our free playwriting course, Street Voices, is designed for early career writers, who want to develop their craft, and have their work performed. The 6 month course offers professional guidance, support and mentorship from industry professionals. Previous attendees of the course include:
Zodwa Nyoni (Ode to Leeds, West Yorkshire Playhouse)
Ben Tagoe (Coronation Street)
Rav Sanghera (Brief Encounters, Freedom Studios),
Emma Hill (#ChipShoptheMusical, Freedom Studios/Octagon Bolton)
Chris O’Connor (The Life and Soul, Red Ladder)
The next Street Voices course will run October 2018 to April 2019. It will be open for applications from July 2018.
In Spring 2018 we will be running a shorter 8 week Introduction to Playwriting course for those who are very new to writing. Applications will be open in the New Year.
In collaboration with RTYDS we have run 3 Month Placements for emerging directors, who want to gain valuable experience on professional productions. Previous recipient of that placement was Kash Arshad, who is our current Trainee Artistic Director. We have also run Introduction to Directing courses, supported by RYTDS. We plan to run two more of these in 2018/19. These courses are aimed at people who want to gain an insight into what it means to be theatre director.
