North Country Returns!
If your whole world was destroyed…What would you do next?
Plague has hit the world wiping out most of the human population. Three teenagers from Bradford are among the few survivors: Harvinder, Nusrat and Alleyne. Together and separately they struggle to survive, each bringing together their people as they try to remake their world.
Back in 2016 Freedom Studios produced Tajinder Singh Hayer’s North Country as a stage play in an abandoned food hall in Bradford. In 2017 we remade the show as a live cast, made entirely by and with mobile phones, in a burnt out building without power or wifi!
In 2020 Taj’s beautiful story of survival, struggle, and renewal feels more resonant than ever.
‘I tell them that’s what’s going to keep us alive. Connection. When things got bad, it wasn’t just because people got ill, it’s because they stopped looking out for each other. And I tell them that each night like a bedtime story. And I tell them not to cry. Because we’ve cried enough.’
And we’ve teamed up with BCB Radio in Bradford, East Leeds FM in Leeds and other community radio stations around the country to bring you a specially recorded radio version.
The next broadcast of the radio version will be on Source FM Friday May 22nd at 2pm! You can listen here: https://www.thesourcefm.co.uk/
