FS Youth Theatre – BD Stories

This year Freedom Studios are producing two plays:

No. 4 by Asma Elbadawi – Fatima and Sarah are best friends, playing together on their college basketball team, but the arrival of new girl Wafa from Sudan stirs up secrets and makes new rivalries. Asma Elbadawi is a British Sudanese poet, basketball player and a global Adidas Brand Ambassador.

Pashto Thriller by Aina Khan – It’s 1980s Bradford, and Hawa Jaan is struggling with having to wear a sari to school, and her secret love of Michael Jackson’s music. When Bibi comes to visit from Pakistan, grandmother and granddaughter find more in common than they thought. Aina J Khan is a writer and journalist who has been published in The Guardian, Al Jazeera English, VOGUE Arabia, Financial Times, and VICE Munchies.

All Freedom Studios Youth Theatre groups will explore this new writing and will be treated to special creative workshops with Aina and Asma. We go see the plays at Kala Sangam on the 26th October. We will create our own performance in response to these themes and perform at Kala Sangam on 15th February.
