Youth and Participation

Youth Theatre at Kala Sangam

FreedomStudios_YouthTheatre-0142

Freedom Studios offers free, regular and creative sessions where young people can come together, make friends and acquire all the necessary skills to make great theatre.

Youth Theatre is also a great way to develop self-confidence, collaboration and communication skills. We aim to provide an inclusive and fun space for young people to creatively explore their identity and the identity of others. Creative expression and a sense of belonging are at the heart of our youth theatre.

Our youth theatre members work with professional actors, writers, and directors, to make new theatre that puts their voice centre stage. Through practical workshops, they learn a wide range of skills used in theatre; from storytelling and ensemble performance to creative writing and film-making.

A Youth Theatre Manifesto, created by Hashim (15 years) Orla (17 years) and Iqra (16 years) and performed at the Youth Theatre Relaunch in September 2018.

FREEDOM

In Youth Theatre we are free to express ourselves.

Who wants to feel trapped?

Freedom means being resilient enough to step out of your comfort zone.

FRIENDSHIP

In Youth Theatre we make new friends.

These friendships have become the most open and personal I have.

They are friends for life.

EQUALITY

In Youth Theatre I always feel important.

No matter the size of my role.

CREATIVITY

Creativity is about expressing yourself.

About thinking outside the box!

DIVERSITY

Diversity is about celebrating our differences as well as our similarities.

It recognises that we all walk different paths.

Diversity is this Youth Theatre’s strength!

Access and Inclusivity

We are committed to making youth theatre accessible to every young person in Bradford, no matter their ability, background or circumstance. You do not need any prior experience to join the youth theatre. We actively encourage young people from minority backgrounds to join.

Youth Theatre is free. We have an access fund which could pay for taxis for a young person to come to youth theatre if transport is a barrier.

If you are aware of a barrier between a young person and youth theatre, please contact us. We would be delighted to have a conversation and learn how we could be more accessible.
