Youth Theatre in Schools

Freedom Studios currently work in two Bradford schools; Grange Technical College and Carlton Bolling. We deliver after-school youth theatre sessions open to all pupils in that school.

Like our in Karla Sangam based Youth Theatre, we offer free, regular and creative workshops where young people can come together, make friends and acquire all the necessary skills to make great theatre. Our youth theatre members work with professional actors, writers and directors, to make theatre about the subjects that they are most passionate about. Through practical workshops, they learn a wide range of skills used in theatre; from storytelling and ensemble performance to creative writing and film-making.

Young people who have been part of our school-based workshops have created performance pieces in response to Freedom Studios’ productions like North Country and Revolution: Bradford. They have also created and performed work marking Refugee Week and World Book Day.

“Setting up a partnership with Freedom Studios was the best decisions ever. They tackle topical issues through the medium of drama, developing their social and communication skills, as well as their creativity and confidence.”

Leila Airey, Head of Creativity at Grange Tech.

We are currently developing several means of working with the broader school community.

Specifically, we are creating a Schools package for our latest production, Black Teeth and a brilliant Smile. See, ‘Schools Offer’ under Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile.

“My students and I have just finished a fantastic day of working with that Natalie, Kat and Kash from Freedom Studios. All three of them were amazing bringing an enthusiastic approach to their sessions that excited our students. The team were very knowledgeable with lots of experience and great advice for our youngsters. The offer of attending Freedom Studios Youth Theatre was very appealing and a great way to end the day.”

Miss R Scott, Drama Teacher at Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College
